Budapest's 2026 bulky waste collection falls on different days in each district, and under MOHU's rules not everything can be put out. Here you will find the dates by district, the list of permitted and prohibited items, and what to do if you missed it. If your district's date has already passed, you can book junk removal in Budapest with us on a day agreed with you.

In Budapest, residential bulky waste collection is organised by MOHU Budapest (formerly FKF) once a year per district, on dates announced in advance. The 2026 schedule for all 23 districts has been published on the MOHU Budapest website. The collection in District IX is happening now (26 October – 5 November); Districts XVI, VII and XVII are still to come before the end of the year. In all other districts, including VI and XVIII, the collection has already taken place.

The table below shows the period for each district as a whole. Districts are divided into zones, and each address within them is assigned a specific day, which MOHU communicates separately in writing. Junk may only be put out on the day given for your own address, after 6 pm.

Source: MOHU Budapest – Residential bulky waste collection 2026. MOHU moved the District I date from 20 March to 27 March during the year. The day for your own address is always given in MOHU's official notice or the district zone list, so please check the MOHU website before you start. Status as of 22 October 2026.

How do you find out which day the collection is at your address?

Within the district period, each zone gets its own day, and MOHU sends residents the date for their address in writing. In areas with detached houses this used to be a leaflet, in apartment buildings a poster. From April 2026, MOHU sends the individual zone notice as an attachment to the monthly bill, either by post or as an electronic bill.

If the notice has not reached you, the district zone list can also be found on the MOHU website, on separate subpages for each district. MOHU customer service can be reached by phone at +36 1 776 7777 Monday to Wednesday 8 am to 4 pm, Thursday 8 am to 8 pm and Friday 8 am to 3 pm, or by e-mail at info@mohubudapest.hu.

What can and cannot be put out for collection?

The collection is for bulky household waste. According to MOHU, this means the following:

AllowedNot allowed
furniture, mattresses, carpetspackaging that can be collected separately: paper, plastic, metal
suitcases, large sports equipmentconstruction and demolition debris, rubble, tiles, soil
larger household itemstyres, flat glass, coal dust, ash
wood waste, kept separate: flat-pack wooden furniture, boards, plywood, OSB boardgreen waste and textiles
electrical and electronic waste
municipal waste
hazardous waste: paint, chemicals, pesticides, used oil, batteries

Wood waste must be put out separately from other junk, and it does not include upholstered furniture, MDF and HDF board, wooden doors and windows or garden waste. Hazardous and electronic waste can be dropped off at a waste yard. Source: MOHU Budapest district information notices.

When and where should junk be put out?

At MOHU's request, junk may be put out exclusively on the day given for your own address, after 6 pm and at no other time. Junk put out on any other day counts as an offence of littering public space.

It belongs on the public area in front of the building, where the collection vehicle can easily reach it and where it does not obstruct pedestrians or traffic. It must not be placed on the road, cycle path or green areas.

The collection is for the district's residents and household junk. Putting out waste from businesses or brought in from other municipalities is illegal, and MOHU has indicated that it takes legal action in such cases.

Can you book a date for bulky waste collection in Budapest?

Not in Budapest's 23 districts in 2026. Residential collection runs in the annual zone-based system, and individual dates cannot be requested.

Free door-to-door collection by appointment applies to towns in the agglomeration, for example Budaörs, Budakalász, Szentendre, Pomáz, Fót, Kistarcsa and Pécel. There, a date can be booked once a year per property, for 1 to 6 m³ depending on the town, through MOHU's telephone customer service, on a first-come, first-served basis. The 2026 period runs from 14 February to 19 December.

Several reports have appeared about the planned reorganisation of Budapest bulky waste collection from 2027, but in summer and autumn 2026 MOHU stated that there is no final decision and no set deadline. As long as this is the case, the 2026 system announced by district applies.

Waste yards: take your junk here at any time

If you don't want to wait for next year's collection, you can take junk to MOHU's Budapest waste yards yourself. There are 18 residential waste yards in Budapest. Drop-off is free for private individuals living in Hungary on presentation of an address card, within daily and annual limits: 150 kg of junk per day and 600 kg per year per property. Booking a slot is recommended for dropping off junk.

Hazardous waste, electronic waste, tyres and green waste can also be dropped off, each with its own limit. The rules for construction and demolition waste changed on 1 July 2026: it is now accepted only for a fee of HUF 36/kg incl. VAT, and only at three yards: Károlyi Sándor út (District XV), Ipacsfa utca (District XVIII) and Nagytétényi út (District XXII).

Furniture and items that are still usable don't have to be disposed of as waste: there are reuse centres at Károlyi Sándor út 166 (District XV) and Besence utca 1/A (District XVIII).

Missed the bulky waste collection? What you can do

The annual collection does not help in three situations: if your district's date has already passed, if you cannot carry the junk down to the street, and if the items are ones MOHU does not take. This is exactly when most enquiries reach us.

Our junk removal On a day agreed with you, typically within 2–4 days, in Budapest and Pest County. We carry the junk down from the cellar, attic, garage or flat, so you do not have to put it out on the street, and take it to an official waste processing centre. We are happy to take furniture and clothing that are still usable to a charity as well (for example the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service or the Red Cross), if you have agreed the handover with them in advance.

We provide an individual quote tailored to the specific quantity, location and loading conditions, based on a free on-site survey or photos. Details: what the junk removal price depends on.

If an entire property is involved, our apartment clearance and estate clearance service is the right fit. In Érd and the southern part of the agglomeration we come from our base: moving and junk removal in Érd.
