What do we offer for international moves?

Herkules-Trans has been moving from Hungary abroad and from abroad back home since 1999, throughout the European Union, to Switzerland and Norway, at a fixed price, door to door, with full liability insurance. Within the EU, transport typically takes one to two days; it is worth booking the pick-up one and a half to two weeks in advance.

We carry out international moves for companies and private individuals across Europe. If you are moving from Hungary to a destination outside the European Union (for example Switzerland or Norway), we also take care of the necessary customs clearance. For moves back to Hungary from abroad we do not handle the customs clearance, but we help with advice. We handle everything in Hungarian and English.

For international moves, in order to recommend the most suitable logistics and thus the most economical solution, we need to know in detail the quantity of belongings to be moved, the packing material requirements, the sub-tasks requiring packing and disassembly and unpacking and reassembly at the destination, the entry, parking and loading conditions, and lift use. For international moves we always provide an individual quote.

Why entrust us with your international move?

Our specialists, with nearly a quarter of a century of experience in handling international moves, are at our customers' service. With expertise, professional equipment and high-quality packing materials, we protect the belongings we transport.

From Hungary abroad

Boxes we provide and their sizes (cm):

  • 40 x 40 x 40 – for books and files
  • 60 x 40 x 40 – for clothes, fragile items, dishes
  • 62 x 55 x 137 – with a hanging rail, for clothes on hangers
  • 62 x 55 x 100 – with a hanging rail, for clothes on hangers
  • 80 x 60 x 60 – for bedding, pillows, light items.

Tips and suggestions

If the boxing is not done by the moving company, make sure the boxes are fully packed so that when stacked, the bottom box and its contents do not get crushed. Wrap fragile items individually in as much paper as possible, mark the box and keep it separate. Always use smaller boxes for heavy items (e.g. books, files). It is advisable to label every box and write its contents on it; this makes it much easier to place it in the right room at the new home and to unpack later.

From abroad to Hungary (moving back home)

We help Hungarian families and private individuals living in Europe move back to Hungary. We transport the entire contents of your home or just part of it, door to door. Moving back to Hungary from abroad dedicated page you can read about the process and the frequently asked questions in detail.

How does a move back from abroad work?

  1. We agree the details by phone or e-mail: from where, how many belongings, to where in Hungary.
  2. We book a date for the pick-up at the address abroad.
  3. We pack on site, with boxing on request.
  4. The truck transports your belongings to Hungary.
  5. We unload and set up at the new address in Hungary.

The exact travel time depends on the distance; for shorter distances within the EU, transport can usually be completed within one or two days.

We do not only transport complete households: we also bring a few pieces of furniture or boxes if our destination is on the way. If the new home is not ready yet, furniture storage is also available until the final arrangements are sorted out.

How much does an international move cost?

For international moves a fixed price which depends on the distance, the route and the volume. After the free survey (in person in Budapest and its immediate surroundings, by video call elsewhere) we send the quote in writing, and it does not change at the end of the job. We also carry part loads – a few pieces of furniture or boxes – if they are on our route.

Is international moving insured?

Yes. We have full liability insurance. When moving to a destination outside the European Union we also take care of the customs clearance; for moves back to Hungary we help with advice on it.

How do you pack fragile and valuable items?

We work with boxes of various sizes, bubble wrap, corrugated paper and tissue paper; fragile items, pictures and electronics are packed separately, and furniture is secured in the cargo area. On request we do the complete packing and unpacking, and we provide the boxes free of charge.

Moving to and from Germany

Germany is our most frequent destination. Whether you are relocating for work, moving with your family or returning home, we transport door to door, a complete household or just part of it. As Germany is a member of the European Union, there are no customs procedures and no customs duties on personal belongings.

The price is a fixed fee, which we give you in writing after the free survey. It is determined by the distance, the route and the quantity, so an address in Munich and one in Hamburg will not cost the same. If the new apartment is not ready yet, in the meantime we can store them.

Moving to and from Austria

Thanks to its proximity, Austria is the simplest destination: Vienna, Graz or Linz can usually be reached within a day, so loading and unloading can often be done on the same day. Here, too, we work at a fixed price, and personal belongings count as EU goods, so there is no customs clearance.

We are also often asked for partial loads: a few pieces of furniture, one piece of furniture and a few boxes, or the furnishings of a rented flat. We quote for these too, not just for complete household moves.

How long does an international move take?

For neighbouring countries such as Austria and Slovakia, loading and unloading typically fit into one day. For Germany, the Netherlands or Italy, plan for two days, and for more distant destinations three. The exact schedule is set out in the quote, and the transport is handled by the same team and the same truck from start to finish, without reloading.

When booking a trip abroad, allow one and a half to two weeks' notice, because a dedicated transport has to be fitted in between all our other jobs.

What documents are needed for an international move?

Within the European Union, personal belongings move freely, so there are no customs procedures and no customs duties. What you need: the two exact addresses, a contact person at each end, and it is worth keeping a list of what has been loaded onto the truck.

For destinations outside the European Union, customs clearance is required. If you are moving from Hungary, we handle the whole process; for moves back to Hungary from abroad we do not handle the customs clearance, but we help with advice. We carry full liability insurance for the belongings we transport.
